KulSun and SolarXWorks FAQs

Portable, off-grid cooling shelters for events, worksites, and emergency response.

1. What is a KulSun cooling tent?

The KulSun is a portable, solar-enabled cooling solution designed by SolarXWorks to provide safe heat relief in outdoor environments.
It combines multiple different power sources (solar energy, a battery storage system, and/or generator) and efficient, quiet air conditioning inside a durable, quick-deploy shelter.

Common uses include music festivals, construction sites, agriculture, disaster relief, and emergency response.

2. How does the solar-powered cooling system work?

Each KulSun leverages high-efficiency solar panels as its primary power source that runs the air conditioning system as well as charge an integrated lithium battery pack. Shore power or gas generator can also run the cooling system if solar isn’t right for your use case.

In addition, the tent’s insulated reflective shell keeps temperatures typically 25–35°F cooler than outside air — even in 100°F+ conditions.

3. Does it need a generator or external power?

No. The KulSun can operate 100% off-grid using solar and battery power.
For continuous or overnight operation, users can optionally connect to grid or generator power.

4. How long does setup take?

The KulSun shelter can be assembled in 30 minutes or less by 2-3 people — no tools required.
The aircraft-grade aluminum frame and pre-attached panels allow for quick deployment in the field.

5. What are the shelter dimensions?

  • Footprint: 16 ft × 16 ft (≈ 260 sq. ft. usable area)

  • Peak height: 10 ft

  • Sidewall height: 6 ft

Multiple shelters can be connected together to expand coverage for larger operations or event spaces.

We leverage a customized Western Shelter tent as part of our Complete package. However, you can use the KulSun on just about any space.

6. How durable is it in real-world conditions?

KulSun is engineered for extreme environments, with tested performance including:

  • Temperature range: –40°F to 120°F

  • Wind resistance: up to 55 mph (gusts to 65 mph)

  • Heavy rain

The Western Shelter tent is made from industrial-grade vinyl and aluminum, each unit meets or exceeds NFPA 1584 standards for heat-relief shelters.

7. What are common use cases for the KulSun?

  • Outdoor concerts, festivals, and sporting events

  • Construction, utility, and infrastructure sites

  • Agricultural field operations

  • Wildfire and disaster-response cooling centers

  • Command, medical, or staging shelters

  • Remote research and defense deployments

8. Can I rent or buy a KulSun?

Yes.

  • Rentals are ideal for short-term events or seasonal work.

  • Purchases suit organizations needing long-term or recurring use.
Visit our Rent and Buy pages for pricing and package details.

9. How long does the solar system last per charge?

On a full sun day with the battery bank, the KulSun runs 6–8 hours of active cooling. The battery bank can run the cooling system for 2-3 hours without sunlight.
With continued sunlight, the system recharges during use, providing day-long operation without fuel or noise.

10. Can I add my logo or branding?

Absolutely. SolarXWorks offers custom logo printing on the roof or side panels of the tent — perfect for event sponsorships, brand activations, or corporate deployments.

We also provide custom colors of the KulSun air conditioning unit itself.

11. How portable is the shelter?

Each KulSun packs into heavy-duty transport cases or a small cargo trailer.
Units fit easily in pickup trucks, vans, or service vehicles, weighing roughly 400–500 lbs total.

12. Is the KulSun safe and compliant?

Yes. KulSun shelters use UL-listed electrical components, flame-retardant materials, and meet NFPA 1584 guidelines for rehabilitation shelters.
They are safe for public and occupational use in compliance-sensitive environments.

13. How can I request a quote, demo, or deployment?

You can:
