Cooling the Crowd: SolarWXWorks KulSun at Reggae Rise Up Oregon
Over Labor Day weekend, SolarXWorks had the opportunity to showcase two of our KulSun solar-powered cooling tents at Reggae Rise Up Oregon at the Deschutes County Fairground and Expo in Redmond, OR. With daily highs ranging from 89–93°F and very little shade across the venue, the cooling tents became an essential oasis for festival-goers.
We placed the tents right in the center of the venue, making them accessible to anyone with a general admission ticket. Over the three-day event, more than 2,000 people stepped inside to escape the sun and recharge in a space set at a refreshing 69°F.
Outside, surface temperatures on the tent fabric reached as high as 106°F, while just inside, sensors near the cooling unit held steady around 70°F. Even near the doors, where foot traffic was constant, temperatures stayed in the 70s to low 80s—a dramatic difference that highlighted the effectiveness of the cooling system.
Thanks to our solar + battery systems, the tents were fully powered by renewable energy from 12:00 PM to 6:30 PM each day, keeping attendees comfortable until the sun began to set and outdoor temperatures dropped naturally. For events that run later into the evening, the KulSun system can also be paired with larger batteries, generator or grid power for seamless backup, extending cooling comfort well into the night when needed.

Again and again, we heard attendees say that every outdoor festival should have these. In fact, at peak times the tents were so popular that we could have easily doubled the number of shelters to keep up with demand.
For us, this event was another great reminder of why we created KulSun: to make outdoor experiences more enjoyable, safer, and sustainable. Whether it’s for music festivals, sporting events, or outdoor workers, the KulSun solution proves that cooling comfort can be clean, quiet, and solar-powered.
